Tozers has launched a newly formed legal team focused on providing expert guidance and tailored solutions for unmarried couples who seek to protect their rights and interests. The team is specifically designed to address the legal needs of those who cohabit but choose not to marry, an area where legal protections can often be overlooked or misunderstood.
Cohabiting couples do not enjoy the same automatic legal protections as married couples. As a result, it is crucial for these couples to have cohabitation agreements in place to define their rights, prevent disputes, and secure their financial arrangements. These agreements become especially important when children, jointly owned property, or inheritance issues are involved.
Heading up the team is David, who joined Tozers in February 2024. With extensive experience in family law and a Chartered Legal Executive since 2006, David brings a wealth of expertise to the firm. He is one of the few lawyers in the Southwest, and indeed nationally, specializing in the complex issues surrounding cohabitation. His deep understanding of this area of law allows him to offer invaluable guidance to clients, ensuring they are not left without fair settlements after years of contribution to the welfare and finances of their families.
Joining David is Gosia, a Chartered Legal Executive who brings an exceptional level of thoroughness to each case. Her meticulous attention to detail allows her to uncover nuances that can significantly impact outcomes, ensuring that clients feel informed, confident, and well-supported throughout the legal process.
The team’s expertise in cohabitation law was featured in the April edition of Exeter Living Magazine. The article, found on page 70, highlights the formation of the specialist service at Tozers and showcases the combined knowledge of the team, reinforcing the firm’s capability to provide robust support to unmarried couples in need of legal guidance.
