The Medical Negligence Team at Tozers is taking part in the Erb’s Palsy Group Walk in October to raise money for the Erb’s Palsy Group!
The Erb’s Palsy Group is fundraising by encouraging people to walk 10,000 steps per day to reach the grand total of 310,000 steps by the end of October.
Erb’s Palsy, also called Brachial Plexus Palsy, is a disability following injury, commonly caused to a baby during birth, where the baby’s shoulder becomes stuck after the head has been delivered (shoulder dystocia) and the brachial plexus nerves in the trapped shoulder are stretched and injured.
This is often the result of medical staff using excessive force when pulling on a baby’s head during birth, and in most cases, the injury can be avoided if correct procedures are followed.

The Erb’s Palsy Group was established by Debbie Clark, a parent of a child with Erb’s Palsy. Since its inception in 1991, the Erb’s Palsy Group has grown and now boasts 2,500 registered members.
The Erb’s Palsy Group help connect and support families who are dealing with the life-changing long effects of Erb’s Palsy. The group is run by volunteers who work to raise money for the group through charity events. The group’s aims are to reduce the incidence of brachial plexus injury, improve treatment and increase awareness and understanding of Erb’s Palsy through education and support. They host an annual training event for professionals, a fun day organised for families and many other projects.
