What you’ll be doing

 

Tozers LLP is a leading firm of solicitors with offices in Exeter, Teignmouth and Newton Abbot offering an extensive legal service to businesses and individuals both locally and nationally.  We are recognised in the Legal 500 and Chambers UK legal directories in a number of fields including our family law team.

 

Our busy family team in Newton Abbot now requires an experienced Costs Draftsperson to work full or part time.  The work is fast paced requires knowledge of the Legal Aid Agency and preparation of bills.  This is a specialist Legal Aid team which represents children who are the subject of care proceedings, instructed by their Guardian, parents and grandparents.

 

Tasks will include liaising with the fee earners to ensure that their files are costed in a timely fashion, liaising with the Legal Aid Agency and taking all steps to cost and submit for payment the bills on legal aid files. This will include preparing bills at all levels including High-Cost case plans, applying for payments on account, submitting Legal Help forms for payment and dealing with the preparation and submission of bills in respect of both assessed and fixed fee cases.

What we’re looking for

 

Educated to A level or equivalent, you will be capable of dealing with more complex legal aid bills and preparation of High-Cost case plans. We are also looking for someone who can demonstrate their interest in this work and a willingness to learn.

 

You will be very well organised and have a ‘can-do’ attitude and be happy to adapt to the requirements of the tasks facing you.  Ideally you will be able to demonstrate your problem-solving skills and how you have used these in your previous positions.  Responding to busy periods cheerfully and efficiently producing accurate work along with an ability to work closely with team members will also be beneficial.

Knowledge of the Legal Aid Agency and CCMS and experience of costing files is preferred.
